Medicare Basics in 2 mins

Basic foundation of MEDICARE.

2025 Medicare A, B, C & D

Medicare Part A - Hospital Insurance

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient hospital care, critical access care, short-term care in skilled nursing facilities or long-term care at home. Part A is free to most Medicare beneficiaries if the beneficiary or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while they were working.

Medicare Part B - Medical Insurance

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers visits to the doctor, outpatient care, some preventative services, as well as some occupational and physical therapy. It may require a monthly premium, which is often based on beneficiary income. It is important to remember that medicare Part B does not cover 100 percent of services and beneficiaries are responsible for the remaining balance not paid by Medicare.

Medicare Part C - Medicare Advantage Plan

Medicare Advantage Plan covers the same services as Medicare Part A and Part B combined, plus additional benefits such as dental and vision care, transportation, over the counter allowance and wellness programs. Additionally, many Medicare Advantage plans may offer prescription drug coverage at no cost. You must enroll in Medicare Part A and B before you can enroll in Medicare Advantage (Part C).

Medicare Part D - Prescription Drug Coverage

Simply put, Medicare Part D is a federal prescription drug program administered by private insurance companies. It covers both generic and name-brand drugs.Medicare beneficiaries can enroll in a stand alone part D drug plan with a monthly premium that will go alongside their original Medicare (Part A & B only), or they can choose a Part D drug plan (In most cases at no cost) built-in to a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C).

Medicare Supplement Insurance - Medigap

Medicare Supplemental Plans (Medigap) is a type of private insurance plan sold by private insurance companies to help cover the out of pocket expenses that Original Medicare may not cover. This may include co-insurance, co-payments, deductibles and the "gaps" between what Medicare pays and the total expenses.
